viva le old school

in 1937, edwin land established the company that would eventually produce god’s gift to man the life changing polaroid camera. fast forward to the digital-infested 2000′s and film starts to get the boot in order to make room for all our nifty digital gadgets not hating, just saying. fast forward once again to the fateful 2008 christmas when your girl finally gets her first “real” camera not counting the m&m themed camera i got for christmas in kindergarten, a true gem i tell you. no way around it, the good ol’ nikon has served a sista well over the years by which i mean both of them, including the one that did not survive the fateful martha’s vineyard sprinkler accident, but there’s something so refreshing about a film camera. i love throwaways because they are truly at the opposite end of the spectrum; where i can manipulate my digital camera to get the exact photo i want, a throwaway camera is a leap of faith. already hooked on phonics film, we decided to take it one step further and go for le instax (which for all intensive purposes, we’ll pretend is a polaroid). for the true filmies out there, i admit that an instax could be considered the world’s biggest copout, but baby steps, baby steps. a full fledged 35mm camera is inevitably in my future; i’m just taking my time getting there.
snapshots: the first batch of instax polaroid gems! check out how rockin baby bro looks in the east village, he would kill me for saying that. winter adventures in new york.
