one could argue that dressing for the occasion and it’s tongue-in-cheek cousin, punny dressing, are high forms of a very particular art. both variations are also a prime way to make friends seeing as anyone who catches the pun is automatic friend material, but i digress. it was the first week of school this week, and we know each other too well to think that i would let such a prime opportunity for puntastic dressing slip away unattended to. full disclosure: i didn’t get my act together for the official first day of school; technically speaking this was my third day of school outfit, but the point still stands. while this outfit is self explanatory on the pun front (i mean back…no pun intended?), there is of course, an A+ worthy story to go with it…rewind to last september when during the frenzy of fashion weak week, opening ceremony celebrated its ten year anniversary with a totally hoppin party (see here), and their ten year varsity jacket. naturally the jacket sold out like hotcakes yadah yadah yadah and i cried my way into realizing that there would be no way to get my eyeball manicured hands on the world’s most perfect jacket. three weeks ago, homegirl was trolling the oc website when boom: there it was, the varsity jacket resurrected and for sale. done, ordered, sigh of relief? not quite. apparently they received too many orders, and there was no guarantee that this magical jacket would arrive on my doorstep, even with the reorder in “approximately three to four weeks.” in a fit of desperation, i switched my order to the significantly less coveted navy and tan version figuring well i’d rather have the navy jacket than no jacket at all. when the opening ceremony box arrived five to seven business days later, i opened the box, cringing as i expected to have made an expensive navy-and-tan mistake (we only do black and grey, remember). the first thing i see: a really huge patch of grey. that’s odd, i really don’t remember the navy jacket having so much grey. LOW AND BEHOLD, dear old oc sent me the original grey opening ceremony varsity jacket.

and that, my friends, is really really good karma.
